Anyone know what's up with Seleste?

After returning my Seleste glasses, I’ve been continuing to monitor the chats on Slack, and also the beta app on Test Flight. I’ve been hoping that the technology would improve, and I’d repurchase if it did.

There doesn’t appear to have been any updates for about a month, and the chats are silent. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about them? Was a promising concept, so I hope it does succeed.

I don’t know. OK, got that out of the way - I do wonder if they have gone the way of Orcam.

I think all the reasons they (Orcam) had for getting out of the VI/AI glasses market apply equally to Seleste.

I was sorry, for Seleste, when I returned mine, but I have never missed them.

They had a demo of these glasses on Double Tap a couple of days ago. Someone asked the glasses to tell him what obstacles were coming up on the sidewalk and then just walked. Every 9 seconds or so it would tell him of things coming up - whether it be parked cars, manhole covers, bottles or whatever. I guess this is the continual feedback thing. It actually sounded incredible to me. Almost too good to be true.

There was a followup the next day on the same podcast focused on the responsiveness of those messages … or maybe more precisely on the lag and latency of those messages. The reviewer clarified that there was some latency on the messages. That there was some need for improvement in that area. Bearing in mind that he was demoing a beta of this capability. However, in realilty the capability will be of marginal use until there is little or no lag. It doesn’t do much good to hear about an obstacle after you’ve already bumped into it, tripped over it or detected it with youir cane.

I’m not sure I would ever trust any glasses to audio description for direct mobility. Something like identifying stores along a sidewalk, or describing duck ponds would be nice.

I think I would personally struggle to put my life in the hands of AI, in particular if it requires an internet connection. My Meta Ray-bans are always losing internet and it’s really annoying.

As always with AI, the potential is incredible.
